Potassium carbonate is an inorganic substance with a chemical formula of K2CO3 and a molecular weight of 138.206. It is a white crystalline powder with a density of 2.428g/cm3 and a melting point of 891°C. Soluble in water, the aqueous solution is alkaline, insoluble in ethanol, acetone and ether. Strong hygroscopicity, it can absorb carbon dioxide and moisture when exposed to the air, and turn into potassium bicarbonate, so it should be sealed and packaged.
Application
Potassium carbonate can be used in glass, printing and dyeing, soap, enamel, preparation of potassium salt, ammonia decarbonylation, also used in color TV industry, mainly used as leavening agent in food.
1. Mainly used for analytical reagents. Such as high-purity analysis, emission spectrum analysis, etc. It can also be used as a flux for silicates and insoluble sulfates, as a water-absorbing agent for organic liquids, and in electroplating, chemical fertilizers, and photographic industries.
2. Used in glass, printing and dyeing, soap, enamel, preparation of potassium salt, decarbonylation of synthetic ammonia, color TV industry, food as leavening agent; as gas adsorbent, dry powder fire extinguishing agent, rubber anti-aging agent, etc.; used for exposed Processing of photosensitive materials.
3. Used in the manufacture of picture tube glass bulbs in the electronics industry, decarburization of chemical fertilizers, and potassium salt manufacturing, as analytical reagents, fluxes, and in the preparation of various potassium salts.
4. As a desiccant in chemical experiments. But it cannot be used as a desiccant for acids, phenols or other acidic substances.
5. Alkaline agent and dough improver, which can inhibit the sourness of noodles, can be used for noodle-made food, and should be used in moderation according to production needs.
6. Used in the production of optical glass, which can improve the transparency, strength and refractive index of the glass.
