Sodium thiosulfate, and sodium sulfite, baking soda, sea wave. It is a colorless transparent monoclinic crystal with a density of 1.667 g/cm 3. Melting point 48 degrees Celsius. Sodium thiosulfate can be used for tanning leather and extracting silver from ore. It can be used to remove chlorine from tap water and is widely used in aquaculture. It is used to treat pruritic skin, urticaria, drug rash, cyanide, thallium poisoning and arsenic poisoning by intravenous injection.
Sodium thiosulfate, and sodium sulfite, baking soda, hybo, is a common thiosulfate, chemical formula for Na2S2O3, is sodium sulfate in an oxygen atom replaced by sulfur atoms of the product, so the oxidation number of two sulfur atoms are -2 and +6.
Application
Detoxification. Sodium thiosulfate is an antidote to cyanide. With the participation of thiocyanase, it can combine with cyanide ions free in the body or combined with methemoglobin to form non-toxic thiocyanate which is excreted by urine and cyanide poisoning. In addition, it can combine with a variety of metal ions to form non-toxic sulfide excreted by urine, and also has the desensitization effect.
Mainly used in photography industry as fixing agent. Secondly, it is used as reducing agent of dichromate in tanning, neutralizing agent of nitrogen tail gas, mordant, bleaching agent of wheat stalk and wool, and dechlorination agent in bleaching of paper pulp. It is also used in the manufacture of tetraethyl lead, dye intermediates and ore silver extraction.
